Traffic congestion along the Juru–Sungai Dua corridor has become a daily challenge for road users, particularly during peak periods. The Juru–Sungai Dua Traffic Dispersal Project (“PTJSD”) by PLUS Malaysia Berhad (“PLUS”) is being developed to improve traffic flow and provide better connectivity along this important corridor.
PLUS appointed AGV Environment as the Environmental Impact Assessment (“EIA”) Consultant for PTJSD.
Upon completion, PTJSD is expected to benefit more than 200,000 highway users daily, with travel time between Juru and Sungai Dua expected to reduce from approximately one hour to about 20 minutes.
The benefits extend beyond shorter journeys. Improved traffic flow is expected to make daily travel more efficient, improve access between surrounding communities and support the movement of goods and services across Penang and the northern region. The project is also expected to create temporary employment and business opportunities during construction.
As part of the EIA, AGV Environment assessed the potential environmental and community impacts associated with the project during both construction and operation. This includes areas such as traffic movement, noise and vibration, air and water quality, public health, ecology and socio-economic conditions.
The assessment also identifies measures to minimise disruption to surrounding communities, including the management of traffic diversions, advance notification of major construction activities, monitoring of traffic conditions and the provision of channels for public feedback.
Through this work, AGV Environment supports the development of infrastructure that responds to growing mobility needs while ensuring environmental and community considerations remain part of the planning and implementation process.
